Karen is passionately convinced that there are practical win-win-win solutions to compassionate use if we get creative and work together. She is driven by her personal compassionate use experience and powered by professional experience to make CURe work. Karen managed a social media effort to ask for compassionate use access for her friend’s fight against melanoma (SaveLockysDad). She is a biologist, has worked on domestic regulation and negotiated for the U.S. Government as a senior policy advisor at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and has led think tank analyses to identify paths to lower barriers to clean energy. Karen has a Ph.D. in ecology and evolutionary biology from Cornell. In her spare time, she is loving learning to surf (or fall into water over and over again with a grin).

Jim is CURe’s digital and social media savvy, creative eye, and forward-march energy. Jim coordinated and rallied the Facebook community supporting his friend Andrea Sloan’s search for compassionate use (Andi’s Army). He launched CURe saying explicitly that he wants his children to see that we work not only for a living but to better the world. Jim owns and manages AHD Multimedia LLC, a company that provides comprehensive strategic and creative online marketing support for businesses and non-profit organizations. In his spare time, Jim is loving training Jiu Jitsu with his wife and daughters, where they learn to solve life’s challenges with leverage and flow.

Mark provides CURe direction on administrative and governance issues and on government affairs and policy strategy. Mark wanted to make compassionate use work better after his friend Andrea Sloan’s fight for compassionate access (Andi’s Army). He bridges industry sectors with experience as a public affairs consultant, lobbyist and craft spirits entrepreneur. Mark runs a consultancy, Shilling Public Affairs, specializing in state and federal legislative and regulatory concerns. Mark has also co-created Revolution Spirits, an Austin-based craft spirits distillery. In his spare time, Mark is loving the idea of someday having spare time.
